...having friends out of your own race gives you a chance to accept people as they are and learn more about their culture. That people have friends only of their own race just because they refuse (or afraid) to step out of their zone of comfortability?

I somewhat agree.

I don't think a white person who has only white friends or a black person that has only black friends is in that situation because they hate or are afraid of other races. I think it has a lot to do with how we are raised and the way we perceive society and society sees us.

We are taught as children and through television and radio and all other forms of media that some things are designated to one culture and some things to another. Then, I think when we're older, we're not sure where to start as far as forming friendships with people of other races. "What if they don't like me?" "What if they have something against MY race?" "What do I talk about with them?"

Yes, I agree.

But having friends in ur own race can also be an advantage as well.

Yet, having friends out of ur own race may cause trouble if the other person dislike you or your culture, which I find very rude and racist. But other than that, I totally agree with u. :]

I agree, befriending people who come from completely different cultures is something that can benefit everybody. Ultimately we're all human, race is often divisive.

Don't get me wrong though, I think it's also important to be proud of your heritage but not so much that you keep yourself boxed in within your community.

If you can define "race" I might know what you are talking about. If you mean having friends with a different skin colour or background then what is wrong with that? Most of my friends have a different background from me and nearly all of them have a different skin colour - lots of shades of pink, yelllow and brown.

I do not believe any of that when it comes to me personally; I can not speak for others.
