1. First decide if you want to live at home, or go away to school.

2. Research top engineering programs in the area (home-based or away).

3. Make sure you apply for FAFSA nice and early! Once you figure out the schools you are going to, the earlier you can get FAFSA your information, the more money their is available. Based on your scores especially, you have a great chance of being offered grants (federal, work-study, etc)

First of all, after you decide and apply to your schools, the universities you are considering may offer you scholarships right off the bat. On top of that, make sure you check out all the scholarship sites such as FastWeb, SchoolSoup, etc) Create a profile on those sites, and use their search engines to recommend private scholarships for you to apply to.

One of your biggest assets, is that you will be a FIRST GENERATION college student. There are soooo many scholarships that are based on that fact that you would be eligible for. Throw key words like "first generation" and "scholarship" into google and see what comes up.

When I was looking for scholarships for school, I would throw things like "jewish scholarship" or "russian scholarship" into google and would get alot of privately funded answers that would come up in the search engine that NONE of the scholarships sites would come up with.

In my advice, just apply, apply, apply. I'm sure you'll do just fine.

First: Figure out what you want to study. Have about 3 potential majors since most college students nowadays change majors.

Second: Figure out where you want to live. Close to home? In a particular part of the country.

Then, start researching the colleges. What has good programs in the areas you want to study. What has good extracurricular activities that you are interested in?

You should be working on your FAFSA right now. That will be what determines what kind of financial aid you receive. With all the stuff you listed, you will probably receive some good academic scholarships. But, expect that a good chuck of your education will be paid for with loans.

After that...apply to your favorites. Be ready to send money as most have an application fee. Good luck.

I don't know how far you intend to go but go as far as you can afford both in $ and time. Plan far enough ahead so that the last school you intend to attend will accept all your classes you take a lower schools. I moved to another area and another college. I talked to an idiot counselor and she told me all my classes would transfer. Yes, they transferred but they did not count. This one should have had a lab, this one should have been something or other. I took so many classes over and the worst of it was that the first school was so much more academically demanding than the second. The second one was almost a joke but if you apply yourself you will always learn. Go to the school with the best reputation that you can get in and afford and check with the second or third, etc school to be sure your classes are accepted toward whatever degree you desire. Apply for every scholorship out there. There will be ones for you because you have the grades. If your parents aren't too well off, that will help too. There are so many others. Do not pay for a list of scholarships. That is a rip off. Go find them on the internet-even if you have to contact different companies yourself. I just found out there was one my old union was offering. I could have tried for it when I moved on but I'm sure going to get my nephew to apply. Sounds like you like to accel. Good for you. Go for it and make yourself a good life. . .
