Matt Holliday had better numbers and his team went to the World Series. Come on now, that is a slap in the face to give it to Jimmy Rollins. I guess they felt sorry for him. We all know the TRUE MVP is Matt Holliday.

Not me.
Holliday had a great year but had way more support than Rollins. Helton, Atkins, Hawpe all behind him. These guys were healthy all year. Maybe the voters saw tyat routine fly ball sail over his head in that one game playoff vs the Padres!
Rollins did't have healthy protection all year with Utley and Howard both missing significant time, and while that team had no pitching at all. Rollins also set MLB records with at bats, and with runs by a shortstop, while becoming the FIRST player ALL-TIME to have 30 hr, 30 sb, 20 triples, 35 doubles, and 200 hits. In a game with so much history, anytime a player who does anything for a first time deserves something. Poor guy wasn't even picked as an All-Star!

I guess it really comes down to is the award for the best player or most valuable?

Rollins had a great year and one could say that the Phillies would've been worse off without him than the Rockies would've been without Holliday. To me, that's the definition of "most valuable player."

However, I'd take Holliday over Rollins.

Did you look at the voting?

rank // Rollins // Holliday
1st - 16 - 11
2nd - 7 - 18
3rd - 4 - 1
4th - 4 - 1
5th - 1 - 0
6th - 0 - 1
(Each was named on all 32 ballots, and neither got a vote lower than 6th.)

23 voters thought Rollins was first or second most valuable in the NL.

29 (!) voters thought Holliday was first or second most valuable in the NL; only three voters ranked him third or lower, with the lowest vote coming in sixth place.

Holliday got plenty of props, and there was only 17 points between them. But Rollins pulled enough firsts to edge out Holliday (first place votes have a premium point weight), and sometimes that happens. It's not an injustice, it's just a scored opinion poll. It's not like Matt got a handful of scrapings down in the basement of the vote return.

However, between getting decked in the Series and missing out on all the big hardware, I can see how Rockies fans might think the winter is that much colder right now. Baseball fandom can be a harsh mistress.

Why is it you always go with the guy that has the most homers? It is the MVP, not the guy who can jack the most out of the park award. A-rod, and Rollins lead in almost all offensive categories among the contenders. Rollins had more Runs, and SB then Holliday. It is undoubted that Rollins devoted more than Holliday did anyway. No offense to Holliday. Oh yeah, and who plays his position better, Rollins hands down.

once you place aside the postseason - which won't be able to count extensive style in MVP balloting considering the fact that they vote earlier the post season AND in case you're putting off the extra interest that that Rockies mandatory to get into the post season and each and all the stats that got here with it - And once you upload in that JRol performed in each and every interest this season - then you definately can see for sure that Rollins somewhat deserved the identify. Mr Holliday did an surprising interest this season, yet he's an basic fielder and the MVP isn't basically a Hitters identify - it is an all around gamers identify. . . And as much as i like talking approximately our MVP, in step with risk this question might desire to be left on my own for a whilst - basically a practise?!

I can see why they gave it to rollins as he did put up very worthy numbers but I really thought holliday was the MVP. Rollins plays on a team with former MVP howard and 30-30 player utley, not to mention rowand. granted holliday had helton and atkins, neither are as good as howard and utley. during that one stretch holliday put the rockies on his back and single-handedly got them to the playoffs. Holliday is more valuable to his team and he definitely got shafted!!!

True, but the award is based on season performance and Rollins was good for most of the season. Holliday did not figure in until September..

woah woah whoah dude!!!! it is NOT all about stats. do you know what Jimmy Rollins said at Spring training? he declared the Phillies the team to be in the NL East. And contributed so much to making the Phillies NL east Champs. Jimmy Rollins is also a leader. I don't know that much about how Matt Holiday is around the clubhouse, but i DO know how Jimmy is becasue i am a Phillies fan. Jimmy has such a good influence on the younger guys on the Phillies. Also if you want to look at STATS then you must keep in mind that Jimmy Rollins is a lead off man. and 94 RBI for a lead off man is pretty good. I must day that i thought Matt Holiday would get it, but glad Jimmy got it.
