and revolves around a band called the "Oneders", later changed by Hanks' character to the "Wonders"? Was that movie based on a true story, or was it fiction just made for the theater? It is an excellent film--I've seen it five times, but still am unsure as to whether it it is real or fiction. Does anyone on this site know for sure?

I believe it's based on a true story with some hollywood input. At the end of the movie, it tells you what happened to each member of that group.

I have seen it and the bands name was the one-ders, like the BEA-tles (as opposed to the beetles) it is a fictitious band, and in the end credits it should have a disclaimer saying so
