I remember the Vicks Vaporub too, mom would put it on a cloth and makes us wear it on our chest at night, it smelled terrible.
I keep a spray bottle of vinegar and water handy and spray it on bug bites or small burns. I eat salsa or something spicy to clear my sinus.

both of the above, the ones you mention.the vick one involved having your head over a pot of boiling water with vick in it and someone holding a towel flat over your head and you just not been able to escape would breathe it in ! When my kids are spending the night with me and feel a bit poorly a glass of hot milk and greek honey ,with some tlc seems to do it.when we were kids we had something else for colds, called hot glasses.mom would wrap a bit of cotton wool dipped in alcohol, then light it and have 3-4 small glass tubes near by.she would then stick the glass over the fire so the oxygen would go out and just stick them on our back for 10 seconds.when removing they would go plop !suppose these days we would call this child abuse lol but well we lived to tell the tale.

My mother did the Vicks thing with me, too. My mother used to make a coctail of baking soda and lemon juice for cystitis that really worked. Wish I could remember the recipe.

my husband says that for a congested chest, his mom would put goose grease on his chest and throat and cover it up with a thick woolen scarf and the next day he'd be fine.
ew...but if it works go for it i guess!
my favourite for earaches:eat banana. spicy foods can cause earaches. if you eat banana it will soothe the earache and if possible cook the banana in with the spicy food (like curries)
for ear infection earache use warm air like from a hairdrier. my daughter had ear infections and that's what i used to soothe her.

Tea tree oil as an aide for removing splinters, small shards of glass, etc. Somehow makes the skin "release" the splinter, or whatever, to medium pressure.
Prid drawing salve for any kind of pimple or other skin eruptions.
Also, of course, aloe plant for burns.
Best new remedy--using BreatheRight nasal strips when you have a cold vs. taking decongestant orally, or spraying in your nose. The nasal strips really work for me!

When I feel a cold coming on I drink Whiskey and Sprite. There is no cure for the common cold but this mixture really can help you through it a little quicker and it is a great ''picker upper''
Eating popcorn can help occasional acid indigestion.
