Bruce Springsteen has been the the working class hero for many decades. He is one of my all time favorites and in my opinion is one of the most thoughtful and articulate artists in rock and roll.
All his performances and recordings testified to Springsteen’s faith in the redemptive power of both rock & roll and the human community.

I like John "Cougar" Mellencamp better. I'm not really sure who "represents the 'common man'" better, though. I'd have to sit and think on that (and listen to all their songs again).
