Of course they are. That's how the government can claim that the pass-rate is going up year by year, despite the fact that 25% of children leave primary school unable to read and write adequately and that there are thousands leaving secondary schools with virtually no exam passes.
I took the old style GCE's in the 1950s and nowadays earn an honest crust doing private coaching work(after 40years teaching) so I am well placed to judge. Believe me, I can complete a GCSE exam in maths in 15 - 20 minutes and get it all correct, without the use of a calculator!!

I don't know I haven't heard that. I assumed they would get harder coz the normally see how well people do and then improve by making the tests harder if they do well...unless grades have been slipping, then it would probably be made easier...right?
Well I'm sure gcses and a levels were one day much harder then they were now, but whether they're still getting even more easier I'm not too sure about.

Our Physics Teacher was showing us his O-Level Physics book, this Physics book had to be at least twice the thickness of our science books, containing all three subjects, this Physics book was crammed full of questions page after page, so you knew how to do it, now they are giving you a lame example, and some story to go with it, also he was telling us that half the content in the O-Level book is now classed as A-Level work, and that if we studied using these Physics books, we could of already sat and passed An AS if not A2 in Physics and got a B grade, just based on the material that was in this physics book.
I think this is ridiculous, we are taught very little to take a test based on a stupid story.
I would rather have a piece of paper saying by using the formula for momentum work out these questions. instead of the way it is now.
Sorry about my rant, but i believe that they are easier, a lot easier

I am doing my GCSE's now and really finding them very hard. Perhaps they were harder years ago but I think school and teaching were at a higher standard. Therefore making them sort of equal. Now i find myself having to do a lot more independent learning. I hope that answerd your question I'm new lol. First answer given lol. so overall now i think really they are the same.

I don't think so! When I was at school doing past papers they always seemed easier the older they were!! That was only a few years ago but possibly people who did them before me think theirs were harder!

They've had to get easier for all you people that can't speak (or write, at least) English.
