Ok, you metalheads, looky here- post 1 or 2 Youtube links to recent (as in, within the last 5 years), metal songs/bands.

I wanna see what the new gen' are up to.

But before you do, I'll tell you my ears are used to the heavy stuff that has more melodic leanings.

Anyone fit that bill?

Thx! :)

lovnrkts: Really enjoyed In This Moment! Thx! The 2nd one was good. A bit less melodic. Great playing in both. Have MTV grabbed In This Moment yet? They sound like they *might* appeal to Evanescence fans.

Off to hear Jakex's Really heavy stuff now. ;)

Just heard the 2 courtesy of Jakex.

With the 1st one, I think I got your sound nailed, man. loL! Growls, then high, clear vocals, back to growling etc.

For both, I wasn't crazy about the vocals, but I dug the music. I loved the power of em both.
Thx!

godsmack:

Lol- I only wanted 1 or 2, so I sorta skimmed some of those vids. Killswitch is amazing! I've only heard 1 other tune, but to my ears, they have a total old school metal sound. The vid seemed to be satirizing 80s metal vids.

I knew the Godsmack tune & like it a lot.

The Disturbed tune- eh. Not enough variety in that tune.

Rob Zombie- I liked White Zombie, so I know he's reliable. This one was OK. I've heard him do better.

The Union Undergrnd- I have a young cousin about 9 yrs old & he LOVES to watch WWF. Are there a bunch of bands who make music solely for WWF & the like?

Hatecrew-

Believe it or not, I kinda liked the Knot. :) I liked the vocals. "Blister" was a good track.

COB- I like em! Another band that to me, is reminiscent of 80s thrash metal...but I'm not too sure I like my metal w/ keyboards. The jury is still out on that...

Shadows Fall- "Effigy". Like the vocal harmonies & the double bass drumming!

Spooky-

Haven't sampled all yet, but I *Def'* liked the Soilwork tune a LOT!

Devildriver- Kicka.ss intro, not crazy about vocals. That seems to happen to me often; I'll love the music & then the vocals won't do much for me.

Didn't dig Lacuna Coil. Too 'wounded romantic' sounding for me. Didn't have balls.

2007-11-20 12:02:06 · update #5

Ok. Just tried:

The Haunted
Scar Symmetry
My Dying Bride &
Try All That Remains

None stood out. Sorry. In some cases I really dug the playing & music, but the vocals would kill it. What *I* wanna know is- can you actually understand what they're saying when they go to extreme death growl mode?? I can barely make out what's being said. It almost sounds like when little kids do "monster' voices when they play. It's almost funny! The growling is a little tough for me to take seriously.

2007-11-21 05:56:42 · update #6

& the last bunch:

Pagan's Mind & Biomechanical appealed to me the most. Esp. the Bioc' tune. That one had the sound most familiar to my ears.

It's funny, I'm sure true metalheads can listen to it indefinitely & be fine, whereas w/ me, though I like metal, after listening for more than say, 30 mins. worth, most of it starts sounding the same. I seemed to prefer to prog metal. I LOVE anything w/ aggressive time sig' changes.

This is why I'm searching hard for a metal band that *I* think has a very original sound.

Thanks everyone for all those links!

I've just gotten something of a crash course in it myself. There was so much talk about some of these bands in the R&P, I made sure to listen to as many metal stations at work as possible.

I hope you like something on the list. Good luck.

When it comes to the grumbly vocals, I don't mind a bit, but too much ruins it for me too.. I think when you listen to that stuff for a while your ears get trained to it and you can pick out what they say.... if that makes sense. Then again, sometimes, it's too crazy and you have to search the lyrics ;)
