I only have 1 PC, a desktop in the living room. I want to move it to my bedroom but I don't have a cable jack in that room. I do have a wireless router that I used when had a laptop. I guess my question is, if I purchase a wireless adapter for my desktop, will that allow me to move this PC to the room where there is no jack? Can I leave the modem and router connected in the living room (with no PC hard-wired to them) and still get the wireless signal that I need for my only PC (desktop) in the bedroom? Any information you can provide me in this regard is appreciated.

Yes buy a USB or a PCI wireless adapter. To check on the signal strength take your laptop to the bedroom and see if you can still connect.

YES! As long as you aren't trying to go through really thick walls, or great distances you should be ok. You will need to match the wireless technologies. 802.11 b or g or n. If I were to do this I would purchase a Linksys Wireless PCI card, but a USB adapter should work ok too. I would estimate that you should have a good signal up to 100 feet, but less is ideal. Yes of course it can go farther, but I'm talking about best case scenario here ppl.

Yes on all counts, but I suggest getting a usb type wireless card, as this allows for using an extension lead to bring it clear of the back of the machine, and also mount the wireless router as high as possible and clear of obstructions for best signal.

That depends on whether the desktop is plugged in using the ethernet cable, or whether it is running wirelessly, if it is plugged in then you could try resetting the router by pressing the "wireless association" button on the router and holding it in till the light starts to change, or pull the plug out and wait 10 seconds then put the power back in. On the other hand if the desktop is wireless, then check to see if the password is correct and that you are connecting to the correct network!

Hi. Yes, it should be easy. You will need a wireless adapter for your PC, USB is fine. Use the wireless connection wizard in Control panel.

I think you are correct on all counts. Go for it, but read the documentation really well first, and read your router's web site advice too.
