First of all folks, READ the question. Questioner is talking about surviving labor, not long term survival. Yes, I read this in a journal some time ago when looking for something else. Have no idea why though. I can only assume that due to the smaller size and fewer requirements, that if compromised, the fetus that needs the least to survive will do so. The reason it was likely in a medical journal was to help physicians make the decision as to whether to allow labor to proceed or to consider a c-section.

That is an old wives tale and completely not true. If that were the case, my doctor would've delivered me two weeks ago when I was just shy of 32 weeks, instead of trying to keep my blood pressure down and giving me steriod shots to help mature the baby's lungs so she can grow a bit more to have a better chance at survival. Babies born in the 7th month have immature lungs and have a very hard time breathing on their own, if in fact their lungs are mature enough to breathe at all.

That is not true. The farther along in pregnancy the better for the baby to survive. Whoever told you that does not know what they are saying. A baby can survive at 7 months, but an 8 month old baby has a way better chance at survival as the lungs are developed better. I think you need to talk to your obgyn about this and they will inform you.

I do not think that this is true. I have always heard that with each week that the baby is in the womb the better for survival.

That is an old wives' tale. Not true at all. Every day spent in utero decreases the risk factors.

That doesn't make any sense. The older baby will have a better chance.
