China does not have the biggest. Where'd you get that info from?

I meant most powerful, but same difference because they SPEND alot of money on military anyways, so don,t give me all these numbers.

The United States is a large country and has to be able to protect it self. That being said there is an attitude that if it is not the American way then it is the wrong way. Like Bush said if you are not for us you are against us. God help us if a person had an opinion of their own!!
How a country can think it has the best way to do everything yet it can not supply health care for its people but will fight to the death their right to carry a gun.

America likes having the most powerful military so we can defend ourselves and defend others. I'm very proud of our brave men and women, and ask any active duty military and he/she will tell you they're doing a good job in Iraq. We're killing terrorists, establishing hospitals, establishing schools, helping the new democracy to stand on its own, protecting the innocent Iraqi civilians (and military) against terrorists, and will continue to do so until Iraq is once again stable and its people safe.

YES china has the most men with guns but we have the most technology and devote the most money which far outways a bunch of men with little rifles...

We have the largest military so we can control our elites financial interests and tell the american people we are fighting for freedoms and too help others......

America doesn't. China fields something like over 2.000.000 men, and 8.500 MBT. I think the USA is second in personnel, first in total expenditure tho; not really difficult since maintenance bills on one aircraft carrier is more than some small countries spend in totality. Then again, dozens of countries spend more per capita, I think one of the middle eastern nations tops that list at over 13% of gnp going to military expenses. Quatar, Oman, Saudi Arabia... something like that.

Well look at it this way...

Belgum had a small military in 1914, and that didn't work out very well for them.

Poland had a small military in 1939 and that didn't work out very well for them either.

India didn't have a strong or united military when the East India Company showed up... ask them how that worked out.

Tibet didn't have much of a military at all... now they are part of China.

Carthage had a smaller military than Rome, and you dont' see a whole lot of Carthaginian Embassies around anymore do you?

Persia had a weaker military than Alexander the Great, and that didn't work out to the advantage of the Persian people.

Have you noticed a pattern here? Clue: Having a large and capable military means that people don't come and invade you and take your stuff.

History allows for small, weak, poor nations, (like most African nations) it even allows for large, poor nations (like China used to be, or Mexico still is) and it allows for rich, strong nations, (like the USA, or most of Europe, or Australia) but never in human history have rich, weak, nations managed to survive very long on their own... they either have to find a large strong ally (which is why Qatar and Kuwait and Israel all welcome the American Military to their nation... they may not like each other much but they all need the US as an ally to help keeps the Iranians away).

The alternative is to get invaded by a stronger but poorer neighbor (as happened to Kuwait in 1990, or South Korea in 1950, or South Vietnam in 1975).

The USA does not want to stop being rich. Therefore we have to be big and strong, lest other poorer but stronger nations take our stuff. The real world plays dirty.

The US doesn't have the biggest military; it has the most POWERFUL military. We don't need a 100-million man army (like China boasts it can provide if needed) because we have much greater technology.

You're obviously an America basher, so here's some useful info for you: This world would suck a whole lot more if the USA wasn't here. The US liberated Europe during WW2, we helped defeat oppressive Soviet communism, we helped liberate Kuwait when Iraq attacked, we helped prevent genocide in Bosnia,....I could go on and on.

So, why do we have the most powerful military? To protect little snots like you from the people who want to kill you.

The American people don't like it if they knew what the implications are. It simply enriches the military industrial complex, and allows Bush to prolong his war, which he will eventually lose. The con job on America is that it helps the economy and protects the US, which is all bullshit.

The U.S. has military bases in 120 countries. If a country has a McDonald's franchise, we open a military base there to protect it. McDonald's should pay the bill.
China has the highest number of foot soldiers. In modern warfare, foot soldiers are target practice for the Air Force and Navy. We have the most powerful military.
