For me it is not a matter of straying from "normal" US culture as the definition of that changes constantly, mostly for the worse. I find it is far more important that we vote for people that will hold fast to our constitution. I am not one of those that think the constitution is a living evolving document, but one that thinks it is a rock solid core for the best possible imperfect society. I don't think for one second that it is a white thing, a red thing, yellow thing or black thing, but that it is a good "people" thing. Ours is the only constitution well thought out enough to ensure broad individual freedoms, while still managing to not limit those rights accidently or to tie them to some sort of responsibility to a state the way Chinas' extremely detailed constitution does. To be honest, all the parties we have available today have already strayed to far, for what I am sure they feel are good reasons. That is the whole problem, people thinking that you can just demonize a certain group of people or a behaviour and once you have smeared them in the media and drummed up support for your plan, boom, no more rights. Anyone can see that individual rights will disappear in a relatively short time if this is allowed to continue. Too many times you hear the words "there should be a law against that" or something to that effect. We should all bite our collective, individual tongues whenever that urge comes upon us, as our wish just may come true and then viola' , one more law on the books in a nation with far to many laws already.

My party as far as I am concerned has strayed from the normal culture. I am a Democrat. For 8 years now. I have noticed how they have not worked on a thing, to make it easier for the ones that voted them in. The last two years I have became very discouraged with the party all together. Just not sure who I want to switch too.

The current culture has a liberal swing too it and as I am not a liberal I guess it could be said that I am already not apart of the US culture. As for how far my part would have to sway when my party (as a whole) started to go against my religious beliefs then I would have to vote for a third party or not vote at all.

Well the democrat party has strayed 100% from the normal US culture. So there should not be any democrat voters left. Right? If you don't believe me ask Joe Liberman.

They wouldn't even have to stray from the normal US culture before I'd switch.
The GOP has gone way too far over to the Dems side by abandoning core GOP values of less gov't, strong on law and order, ending illegal immigration.

I didn't leave the Democrat Party, it left me. Unfortunately, there are only two political parties in this country. I'm forced to vote for the lesser of two evils.
This country needs a third party badly.

I think I know what you're getting at, but my party ideals are already a fair ways away from the "normal US culture"
But I'm certainly not loyal to it in any case either.

I support the party that passes legislation closest to the ideas I believe in...
it has some to do with culture, but not that much overall...
also, "normal" changes...

Simply having moved to the midwest from NY I can see I gigantic difference in white upper middle class native born culture.
So I ask, what is normative US culture.
