I agree - Brits should have a day for giving thanks too. Why doesn't everyone, in fact?
It's good for the soul to spend a day or two focused on the things you're grateful for - which is the point of Thanksgiving.
I think far too often we can get into a funk about what's rotten about life. It's lovely to celebrate what is wonderful.
It's great to gather with family and friends and spend the day feasting and enjoying great conversation, great wine, great music, etc. The vibe is relaxed and fun - there is no stress because the holiday has no expectation of gift giving or extravagant decorating.
Why don't you start the tradition in your own family - maybe others will want to start celebrating it too. It doesn't have to be pilgrim-centric. The Brits have a lot to be thankful for (besides the cute accents, lol) - so pick something meaningful to you guys and go for it!

I'm not sure why you don't celebrate Thanksgiving. I know the Canadians do. Perhaps you should put together a proposal to Parliament to institute a new holiday.

Besides the opportunity to give thanks for all we have given, it has turned into a bit of a history lesson, here in the U.S. Besides the opportunity to celebrate the autumn harvests and all the benefits of these, we take the time to remind ourselves of the feast that the Pilgrims supposedly had with the Indians when they arrived at Plymouth Rock. It ends up being a celebration of our national heritage.

Your countrymen are probably still upset about their colony turning on them in 1776.

I don't see why you couldn't have your own feast if you wanted.

Besides the feast, it's a great day for family and football on TV. It kicks of the holiday season, Christmas is only a month away. The day after is a tremendous shopping day. Many stores open very early with crazy sales. I usually stay home, I can't stand shopping in crowds.
