You mean, "Hear" I presume. Yes, they can. My baby, before she was born, had an absolute fit at the sound of my pastor's voice. She hated the sound of his voice after she was born too.

Yes. The fluid inside the womb causes the sounds to be muffled, but it also intensifies them in a way. Babies are born recognizing their mother's voice. They will also recognize any music the mother listened to on a regular basis. If the mom had a dog, the bark will be a familiar sound to the baby.

Our public health nurse said she dealt with a mother who was in a heavy metal band. She played with the band while she was pregnant and after her baby was born, her child was very restless and wouldn't settle. The nurse suggested to the mother that she should play some of her heavy metal music and that worked like a charm. The baby was used to listening to heavy metal music while in the womb so it was only natural that she settled when she heard what she was used to hearing.

I think the child can. I use to sing and speak to my baby when he was in my belly and loved every minute of it. Not knowing whether my baby cld really hear or understand me did'nt bother me, u will start forming a bond with the child, and it will make u more excited. I think the baby begins to regognise the mothers voice.

Yes, we were just discussing this in health class the other day. If there are loud noises or something by the baby, it might jump because it was startled.

Yes it actually can. Singing to the baby is really good to soothe it. Yelling and screaming may cause the baby stress and harder labor.
