Coach Nick Saban described the humbling defeat in almost apocalyptic terms Monday, mentioning the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and Pearl Harbor in talking about how his team must rebound like America did from a "catastrophic event."
"Changes in history usually occur after some kind of catastrophic event," Saban said. "It may be 9/11, which sort of changed the spirit of America relative to catastrophic events. Pearl Harbor kind of got us ready for World War II, and that was a catastrophic event."

Comparing 9/11 and Pearl Harbor to a college football game??? Only in the south would that answer be acceptable. Football is a religious experience down there. Entire towns shut down during a high school game. Expectant mothers plan their delivery around their baby's daddy's two-a-days. Now, that having been said, north of the Mason-Dixon line is where Saban's comments go from misunderstood to downright offensive. There are about 4,000 families who lost loved ones on 9/11 and God knows how many more on 12/7/41. Saban should check himself the next time he loses to a nothing team like LA-Monroe.

You people need to lighten up. I am in no way a Saban fan(he wrecked a national championship for OSU in 98) but he wasn't comparing his team's loss to pearl harbor or 911. He was talking about human nature and how people can rise up after a catastrophic event. He used 911 and pearl harbor as historic examples of when that has happened.

That wasn't just classless, that was not fair to even put football in the same sentence as 9/11 and Pearl Harbor. Just not a cool move by Nick Saban.

No, but I think people are classless for making this an issue. He was trying to motivate his team, its hard to understand this if you aren't competitive...which most overly-sensitive people aren't. He wasn't comparing the loss to those he events, he was just saying we have a "catastrophe" by CF standards and look at what can come from adversity.
I'm beginning to think more and more that people are "offended" by this because it reminds them of thsoe events and they dont want that. They like the blissfull naievete' that comes with not ever remembering those events.

I think Saban is a complete moron for comparing a football game to those events. He could have compared his team's loss to something like "how USC lost to Stanford" or "how Michigan lost to Appalachian State". That would be more reasonable and understanding. He was totally out of line and should be fined for it.

Pearl Harbor grew to become right into a armed forces assault on a armed forces base, and it grew to become into an introduced assault. Japan instructed despatched out a message that pronounced that they had be attacking Pearl Harbor, yet our government dropped the ball and did no longer take the warning extreme adequate. 9/11 on the different hand grew to become right into a terrorist sneak assault on civilians. Pearl Harbor grew to become into what war might desire to be, one usa's military attacking yet another's. It sucks that it grew to become into an assault on usa, besides the undeniable fact that it grew to become into 'honest' war none the fewer. 9/11 grew to become right into a terrible slaughter of harmless people who posed no danger to the attackers. They weren't infantrymen, might desire to no longer combat returned, and had no probability. I see no similarities between those 2 events othen than what you stated approximately them being assaults on usa and sparking wars.

wwell...I thought he was a classless sleaze-weasel before this...so that just confirms it for me!!!!!
Well Bama fans...he is all yours......even with our crappy record I am sure glad we got Weis at Notre Dame instead of Nick Satan......at least I can look at myself in the mirror still, knowing that win or lose, we do it honestly, and with dignity ( and losing wiht dignity is still no fun...and bloody hard!!!)
The thing of it was that it was typical, arrogant Saban. And he honestly believes that they are of similar scope. Instead of realizing that he, the coach didn't have his kids ready to play!
