Prophecies, nightfall, and factions are stand alone games. You can play them by themselves or together. Eye of the north is the first real expansion. You must have another one of the games to play it. If you would have payed attention before you bought it you would have noticed it said expansion and requires another one of the games to play. Amanda is correct. Eye of the North is just an expansion. It would be like going to the store and buying a Playstation game then coming home and complaining that it doesn't work because you don't own a Playstation.
But the good news is that Best Buy has the original Guild Wars game on sale this Friday for $9.99. Now's the best time to grab it.
