You might need to actually set up your wireless card to work with your home network (in fact if you have a decent home network you will need to set it up again).

It looks like the shop had to do what is commonly called a "clean install" of Windows. What this means is that they used Windows installation software to completely wipe your hard drive and re-install the Windows operating system as if your laptop just came from the factory. The good news is that any viruses, Trojans, root-kits, etc. that infected your system are now gone. The bad news is that so are all of your installed programs, DRIVERS, files, etc. This is you constantly hear the advice to regularly backup your files, etc... (Ah, well... that is a discussion for another thread....)

Often a clean install is the only recourse to get a PC up and running again. However, sometimes it is simply a lazy shortcut for over-worked and/or unethical techs... You be the judge. Hopefully, you still have any installation CD's that came with your laptop. If not, usually they can be downloaded for free from the internet.

I suggest you take your laptop back in and request that the shop at least gets it back to where all of the hardware works. You should be able to re-install your software from the installation CD's. As for your data; well, if you don't have current backups, you may be out of luck there.

Hope this helps!

They won't have wiped the wireless card. They may have wiped the driver for it. Find out what make and model it is and search for it on a search engine. Then download the driver for the appropriate operating system. Ie. if you are using windows XP make sure you download the driver for windows xp and not a different one.
Then double click the file and setup the driver.
Usually you may have to restart after setup so I recommend you save all other work and shut it off. Good luck.

You probably need to just get the drivers for the wireless card from the manufacturers website.

Most likely they formatted the hard drive and re-installed xp. Now you will have to re-install the drivers for your wireless card.
