At 7 wks, he should be waking during the night for at least two feedings. To discourage it, you need to feed him, but turn on no lights, do not talk to him, and place him back in his crib right away. That way he only associates you coming in with the food and not with playtime.

OH LORD.

First of all, babies do not generally sleep through the night. Sometimes they will throw you a bone and sleep for 3 or 4 hours straight....

You cannot give a 7 week old baby rice cereal, you will be up with him for a week, with gas pains, constipation and throwing up. Babies aren't suited to digest that food.

Things you could do:

1. Figure out when the baby does sleep... in the car? In a brightly lit room?
2. Adjust your schedule to mimic his a little better. You are a mom now, you need to adapt to him, not him to you.
3. Nap whenever humanly possible. Do not fold that laundry, lie in it and fall asleep, even if it's only for 20 minutes.
This is the best advice I have to keep ahold of your sanity.
And by the way, your cousin's lying. Babies don't sleep through the night every night at 3 weeks old.
She isn't a good friend. That's not support.

I couldn't have said it better than do your own thinking! But really, 7 weeks is very young. I know you are tired and I can sympathize with that but this is just what babies do. Are you breastfeeding? It is much easier to breastfeed during the night than have to get up, heat a bottle etc. Whatever you do, don't listen to these so-called friends who tell you not to feed your baby during the night! What kind of parenting is that? And don't give him rice cereal, he is too young. Rice cereal is really just baby junk food and completely unnecessary. On your days off try to get someone you trust to come over and take care of the baby while you rest. Other than that, you will have to wait it out.

My son didn't sleep through the night until he was 18 months old. Every child is different. At 7 weeks, babies still need to fed every 2 to 3 hours. 7 weeks is too early for cereal (my opinion), but check with your pediatrician. Take naps whenever possible. Have your husband get up in the night too, unless you are breast feeding. If you are breast feeding keep in in a bassinette by your bed. He is not just your responsibility, ask for help.

Seven week old babies have very tiny tummies. They need to eat during the night. You need to get up and feed him when he is hungry. If you're nursing, you can let him sleep with you (or right next to your bed) so you can nurse him back to sleep before either of you is fully awake.

Don't give your baby cereal. His intestines are not yet developed enough for anything but milk, and it is a myth that cereal makes babies sleep through the night.

You need to continue to feed your baby at night if he is hungry. He is only 7 weeks old!!! Don't expect your baby to sleep through the night this soon, if he does, then great, but keep in mind that he may not even do it until he is 6 months old. Your friends are lucky.. but you should not take advice from them about not giving your baby feedings at night. They are totally wrong... and it can be really damaging to your baby. Also, don't give a baby any cereal until he is at least 5 months old.. his reflux is not fully developed yet and it can be a choking hazard for him. Welcome to parenthood... lost sleep is all part of it.

Sorry, he's a bit young to be sleeping through the night. Some babies do, must won't for a few more months though. At this age he still needs feeds at night. He's also too young to be getting rice cereal unless adviced by your paediatrician. Just stick with it and things will start getting better.

At 7 weeks most babies still need to be night fed. They only drink small amounts to fit into their small stomachs so feed frequently. You can't go by what your other child did or any one Else's. He will sleep through when he is ready. If you don't feed him during the night and needs it. You will have a bigger problem. He will be getting more and more upset and will be harder for you to comfort him in the end. He doesn't need rice cereal he must needs to be fed.

Do NOT give him rice cereal yet! It'll make him colicy...and if you think having a baby that wakes at night is bad, try a tired hungry colicy baby!

I got my baby to sleep 9 hours straight with a routine I started as soon as her cord fell off. Bottle, Bath, Bottle (to top her off) and bed...works like a charm. But every baby is different. She didn't start sleeping longer till about 10 weeks (2 1/2 months). You just have to get up and feed him til her grows out of it. At your 2 month well-check, ask the ped for advice.

They will grow out of it. These first few weeks are the toughest, but it'll be over faster than you want it to be later, so even though it sucks now...cherish what you can.

My son is 10 months old and is just now starting to sleep through the night. He always wanted a middle of the night bottle. If they wake up and are hungry, feed them. Especially at 7 weeks old. That is not the time to try and get a schedule going. That's just cruel.
