1 - 80g of lead is coated with 30g of mercury. if the densities of lead & mercury are 11.37g/cm^3 and 13.6g/cm^3, calculate the density of the amalgam.

2 - A student mistakenly added 50cm^3 of methylated spirit to 100cm^3 of water. calculate the density of the mixture given density of methylated spirit and that of water to be 0.76g/cm^3 and 1.0g/cm^3

Total volume
Vt=V1+V2
Where each individual voluem is
V=m/p
the density of the amalgam
pt= mt/Vt
pt=(m1+m2)/(m1/p1+m2/p2)
pt=(80+30)/(80/11.37 + 30/13.6)
pt=11.9 g/cm^3

2. similarly to above

m= p V

pt= mt/Vt

mt= p1V1+p2V2
pt=[p1V1+p2V2]/(V1+V2)

pt=[0.76 x 50 + 1.0 x 100]/(50 + 100)
pt=92 g/cm^3
