Great question.
I run and manage a medium sized retail nursery store.Over 20 employees and staff.

I order trees, shrubs, plants and flowers from larger wholesale nurseries. I make sure all plants are watered and fertilized according to what they need. I check for insects, diseases and plants that need special attention.

I have to check watering system, temperature in greenhouse and nursery store. I also have to order insecticides, fertilizers, potting soil, compost, pots, and numerous gardening tools and accessories.

We have to keep up with current retail nursery business solutions.

Of course I oversee current and future employees, scheduling, raises, etc....

Early spring thru late fall are very busy. Winter is sloooow.

I love doing it....Oh by the way I also run the company website.

People who run nurseries, or people who work in them? It depends on the size of the nursery, but the larger the business, the less the two have in common. People who work in them can do a number of things, from running the watering system to transferring seedlings from starter trays to larger trays.

PaulGuzi Is sooo right, Vote for him, I also run a nursery, where I plant my own liners (baby bare root trees) in January and I also try to do Christmas greens for extra cash in the slow season.

I thrive on exhaustion! LOL
