I suppose Mexico & Canada could adopt the dollar, if they wanted to, or peg thier currencies to the dollar the way China has, to create a de-facto currency union.
But, there's no great advantage to doing so. It would mean a unified monetary policy, most likely dominated by the US Federal Reserve, and the needs of Canada, America, and Mexico in terms of monetary policy are not exactly identical.

For what reason? just to do it? Our fee of substitute with Canada and Mexico are plenty greater solid than have been the various eu international locations. as properly, the euro is an element of a Europe extensive "union" (eu) and accommodated a planned mutual economic device. i do no longer choose ot throw in with Canada and god forbid Mexico with a unilateral economic device and distant places money. Serves the US no good to combine money, economies or social norms.

I would prefer to keep the dollar. I agree with Babe, this country is so large, it's about like having 50 countries using the same currency.

Why? You can fit all of Europe into the US with plenty of room to spare. We don't need to join north America monetary system.
