How do you make banners like the following:

Not exactly like that. It's just an example of what I'm talking about. I want to edit some pictures and make a banner with them with text and stuff. Help?

I learned by downloading a photoshop editing program (PSP9), then reading as many web-based tutorials as possible on what I wanted to do, i.e., make banners, siggies, etc. Hope that helps :) Sometimes you can get lucky and find a spam/virus-free download for the program for free!

(I assume you're talking about, the header division for a website. Here's how I did ours.)

Grab a digital photo, fresh from the camera. They're often wider than you need. Figure about 1280px by some height, AFTER you do all this:

Crop the image so's you get only the contents you want. (Like, in the case you mention, crop out the part where there's, say, a Pepsi can or a housefly off to the side, that you don't want to include.)

Then resize the image to the desired width. Then crop again to the desired height...in our case, we set it about 150 px.

Then set up your web page with a #header div with the image as a background-image. Then display the text as, say, an

or

with CSS for the desired font, color, size, etc..

Voila!

Have you tried using Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop? It's really good with editing and stuff like that.
