Yes they can. It is a stated condition of employment.

It depends on the conditions of your contract and the terms upon which you signed it. Please check it before refusing a test. If you're a none drug user why would you refuse? It's not a question that your work standards have dropped it's a company doing random checks. If you decide to change your employment at least you'll have it on record that you have conformed with their regulations and have had no adverse results.

Generally speaking, with most jobs/industries drug tests are not standard practise, in which case you could argue that it is unnecessary. However, if you've signed a contract agreeing to take them you are bound by it.

There are some industries where drug tests are compulsory - such as public services, bus driver, train driver etc. In these industries refusal to take a test will normally be treated the same as failing it.

if u don't use drugs why are u worried about a pee test? i understand it feels like a violation of your rights but u could get fired for refusing and u should feel safer working in a drug free work environment. what people do on their own time is their business but if i work with some professional stoner and he gets me killed because he is to high to properly use equipment my family will sue the pants off my employer. it covers your bosses behind and keeps you safe so fill up the cup and quit complaining.

That depends on where your job is.
I live in an "at will" employment state, where either employer or employee may terminate the work relationship at any time for any reason (though in certain circimstances I would elegible for unemployment benefits).
You need to check with your local labour commision (state dept of labour) as each state has it's own policies.

Depends on State law.

If you consented to random testing as part of the hiring agreement then you can be fired for refusing with no consequences.

In most States, if it's not a previously agreed to testing process then you can still be fired for refusing, but the firing would not be considered "for cause", which means you'd be entitled to unemployment benefits.

Yes. The insurance companies and Workmans Comp require drug testing. Persons who refuse can be fired.

Yes, you have the "right" to refuse a urine test @ work.

Yes, your employer has the right to terminate your employment for the refusal to take the urine test.

If your employee asks you to take a urine test you have the right to under the human rights act to refuse. Alternatively, tell him not to take the piss!

Is there some kind of reason why you don't want to submit to a urine sample?

Most jobs, even Wal-Mart require that you take a urinalyis test.

So yes, they can tell you to pack it up and go home.
