My kids have middle names but I have a friend who refuses to give her kids middle names. Just wondering everyone's opinion on this and if there is some known reason why middle names are given to begin with? Just to help with identificatin among the masses?

The middle name is given at baptism. It has religious significance.

I guess to distinguish us further from other people. Seeing as there are so many common names and surnames. Having a middle name gives us more individuality.

some people have same first name and last name, it would be a very great coincidence if someone else had the same first, middle and same last name. its just that too many people have same first and last names, its just to show who is who. ie John F. Kennedy, George W. Bush

I don't know. I just figured that it was like some kind of second choice they would give their kids as a first name.
