The thing I have most useful with persuasive writing or speaches is to pick something that most people have an opinion on. Such as pro-life and pro-choice. Pro or Anti War. Or even legalizing marijuana. Something that you have a strong opinion about. Than try to convince your audience that your choice is the right one. Anything that people really care about will hold peoples attention, and if you really care about it it will be easy to talk about it for a while.
