At my school we have senior projects. Every senior has to do one and you can do anything as long as it's worthwhile. I think I want to make a wedding dress for mine. Does anyone know how long it will take? (You have to spend at least 30 hours on your project.) About how much money will all the materials cost? How much experience is needed? Thanks!

Making a wedding dress will take at least 30 hours, probably a lot more than that. You should be reasonably experienced in sewing if you want to produce a dress that you will be satisfied with. That is, you should already have made several projects beyond basic items. Have you made a pair of pants with a zipper fly, for example? Or anything with a zipper? Have you learned how to make a lined garment? Do you know how to adjust garments to fit different body shapes? Etc. The best way to calculate the cost would be to go to a fabric store and look at a pattern you like. You can find the required yardage amounts on the pattern envelope. Then, go around the store and actually price the suggested fabrics per yard to calculate the approximate cost. So for example if you like a full style dress made from satin with a lace overlay, you will need to consider the satin, the lace, a lining, and usually an interlining as well--each of these materials will have to be added in your calculation of the cost. Usually, also to get the right fit, you piece together a pre-dress from material like muslin, unless you have old sheets you can use, which is an additional cost if you do this.

Having said all this, if you choose a pattern that fits your abilities, you can most likely produce a dress you will be proud of. Good luck!

It shouldn't take more than 100 bucks. I am having mine made as a wedding gift. My fiance's aunt owns a dress shop and makes custom dresses. She is making it but I have to purchase the material and you can get some really pretty stuff for around $80-$90. Good Luck and I definitely think it will take a while...not sure how long..that just depends on how much experience you have:)

in the previous i opened this question i replaced into thinking that if this lady has sewing skills and has studied layout or some thing comparable and would not get under pressure too actual then decide for it, yet i'd hate which you will learn the demanding way - that for the period of keeping with a student , or individual not counseled via notice of mouth or previous wedding ceremony dress experience can somewhat actual deliver approximately unhappiness, perhaps it would be greater useful to flow to a "trend fashion designer" who could make you a toile (1st greater wholesome pattern) - make amendments, and then make your dress in the appropriate fabrication you have chosen. in any different case i'm advantageous in 7 months you will desire to be waiting to locate some thing out determining to purchase. it is likewise possible to marvel your self and locate some thing you probably did not somewhat take into attention yet makes you appear to be a dream. i'd say - proceed with warning and robust success

Sounds like a fun project - for as long as you keep it sweet and simple, it wouldn't be a frustrating endeavor in the end. http://www.calicolaine.co.uk/bridal-fabric.html has some good wedding fabrics that you can order for your project. As for the style, choose ones that are relatively easy to sew or within your capacity as a seamstress. I suggest starting with a simple cut, then if you have time left over in your 30 hours you can spend the remaining time doing hand-sewn embellishments.

That sounds fun. You should go look for dress patterns online, and then decide what materials to get and put your list together. Make a log of the time you spend. I would try to be simple to cut down on cost. Make sure you log research right now as a good hour.
