As there is not any god the two are on a point enjoying field. Jesus gets all caught up interior the nonsense it somewhat is god the place as Buddha basically gets on with the information of being human. I vote Buddha as through a great way the wiser.

I am neither Christian nor Buddhist, but I'd say Jesus. Buddha's wisdom had to do with disengaging from the world, not caring, finding the world within yourself. Jesus's wisdom had more to do with engagement, caring for others, serving others, the brotherhood of man.

It's interesting to realize that nothing either of these guys taught was original with them. If you read about them in the proper frame of mind, their wisdom is self-evident. But I am not one who believes in withdrawing from the world and finding your own internal bliss, I believe (not because of religious teaching but just because it seems reasonable to me) that we have to be there for each other, and to some extent that's why we're here in the first place.

BTW, Seth N, 'divine folly' is an oxymoron. 'Human wisdom' is almost, but not quite. 8^)

Mr. knowitall (I'm referring to your screen name),
In a sense your right about the things Jesus taught, were not "original". The law and the teachings the Jews had were before Him. But guess what, the Bible says Jesus was the FULFILLMENT of the law, and again "I give you a new law, to love your neighbor as yourself, in this all the other laws are fulfilled". There are so many things Jesus did or said that would not necessarily be considered "original", but Jesus was simply an example of what God was. In the Bible He says, referring to God, "I do only those things that please the Father".

Absolutely Buddha...Buddha died peacefully under a tree...but so many Christians believe that Jesus is their savior, when he was CRUCIFIED...he even knew in advance that he was going to die...He said to Judas that he was going to betray him and said to Peter that he was going to deny him 3 times...knowing this in advance, don't you think that Jesus, if smart, would have gone into hiding? Jesus betrayed himself...the proof I have is that He preached ''as you judge, so will you be judged'' and he judged Judas as betraying Him, so Jesus really judged against himself. He learned what He preached.

What is lesser-known about Lord Gautama is that he stated he taught of a position in Atman, or "I Am Presence." He taught "neti, neti," or "not this [psyche], not that [physis]" as an Avatar to fellow Hindus who were rather enmeshed in their seven major chakras/body temple religiosity.

As with the Chinese in Confucius' time, the Athenians in Socrates' time, and the Jews in Jesus' time, the many were in a comfort zone which simply did not permit God-realization unto the Second Heaven.

Socrates was wise enough to know he didn't Know; Confucius Knew but, focused on helping others in Chinese society, when he was no longer "heard," withdrew; Christ Jesus Knew.

What Jesus taught was the Father-Son demonstration in Mater, Matter, laying down in Earth's Matter a record which bears witness, forever, of this pattern. What Gautama taught was Second Heaven Original Buddha Mind, or "I Am Presence" which, like the Great Tao, is not confinable to either psyche or physis, or both, or neither.

"Wisdom" is "wise dominion;" this dominion is keeping body temple and Self for One Mind Soul, God, Brahman.

The paths are parallel, and the religiosity which has developed aroung both, as well as Lord Confucius, is diverse, variously effective, and subject to relativization and obfuscation. Nevertheless, what they "wrote" in the akashic records of Earth remains available for those who attune with same.

They continue to Teach to this day, as e.g. "The Masters and Their Retreats" by Mark Prophet (his birth name) indicates. By virtue of having returned unto the One via the ritual of the Ascension in the Light, Gautama, Jesus and Confucius have mastered Time and Space, and are able to be simulataneously in Mind with millions of earnest seekers, giving Light even as those seekers draw down Light from their Presence. There is more to understand, however, sitting under one's "vine and fig tree" as the Bible says enables a relatively simple access to the Omnipresent Light of God, via one's individualized I Am Presence, Buber's "I-Thou."

cordially,

j.
