I noticed how high pitched some people's voices are, recently. I think the American accent makes their voice even more high pitched?

Only last night I was asking if anyone else had noticed or was it just me.. that many American women have voices that sound like Disney characters. I wondered if it was an attempt to sound more feminine or softly spoken or childlike that made their voices squeaky and chipmunkish.
I just can't take them seriously.

No. Maybe SOME do, but this is true of girls from other countries as well. Many American girls have very nice voices.

You are so right. I am an American but I live part-time in Eastern Europe. I often go days or even weeks without hearing Americans speak. when I do hear them, my ears hurt.I am very careful nowdays to speak clearly and try not to whine when I talk. I am back in the states so I really have to be careful not to pick up the bad habit again.I once heard myself on a tape and was shocked how horrible I sounded.
I don't understand where the terrible sounding accent comes from.I think we may talk to fast and not breathe properly.
