You could go into labor at any time. Sounds like the baby is all ready and in the right position. Those contractions are slowly dilating your cervix which is great because when you go into labor it won't take as long to become fully dilated. I would say you'll have your little baby within the week.

I highly doubt you will make it to 40 weeks so get ready and congrats! I'm basing this on the fact that the doctor can feel the head, that means the baby has dropped down pretty far and his head is pressing on your cervix, which will make it thin and dilate faster. If it was just the dilation/effacement, though, it could go to 40 weeks easy. I walked around 3 cm dilated for three weeks with my second son. I kept expecting to look down and see a head cause he was so low. lol.

well i have been having regular contractions (every 4 minutes) since 32 weeks and it hasn't gotten anything going, i am also 1-2cm and 50% effaced(i am now 36 weeks)
the doctor can't give you a time for going into labor, because he doesn't know. it could be any time between now and 42 weeks.
you could be that effaced for a few more weeks or you could go into labor tomorrow. no one can say for sure.
just watch for your contractions to become regular (IE every 4-5 minutes, lasting a minute each for an hour)
good luck!

It really depends. at 29 weeks i was between 50 and 75% effaced and i had contractions so they put me on bed rest. At 34 weeks i was allowed to get up and even though i was 75% effaced and 1 cm dialated i didnt have the baby for a week and a half

It really varies. Some women are 80% effaced and dilate 2cm 2 months early.
Most women, however, progress slowly over a few days from 0% effaced to delivery.
Good luck to you!

Effacing is good, very good. Being low is good, too. If you water would just break, you'd have a kiddo on your hands. I'm not an expert, but I don't think I'd be alone--make sure someone is around in case baby needs a quick delivery.

You could go into labour today...you could hold in this pattern for weeks...there's really no way to tell. That's why your doc's not giving you a time frame.
Good luck!
