Not necessarily there for gambling. Always wanted to go for mini-trip. R there other things to do/places to see besides gambling/skiing? Don't mind the cold, will be dressed for it.

You don't have to rent a car - there are shuttles or taxis. If you're there for gambling, stay on the strip. Most casinos have good hotels - circus circus is one of the cheapest, but also not so great - it's kind of dumpy. Silver Legacy & El Dorado are nice - all three I just mentioned are connected by an indoor walkway so you don't have to go outside if you don't want - it gets COLD there this time of year!

Reno is a small town, a short cab ride from the airport which is next to the Hilton. Reno is not like Vegas with streets lined with casinos.
I would rent a car only because the cab fair adds up and many of the casinos are not that close to each other. In fact, if you look at the casinos there, some are in Sparks, which is across the highway from Reno. There are several casinos downtown if you only plan on seeing about six and then you don't need a car because you can walk to those.
IF I were going back I would stay at Sienna, the newest and we found the people very friendly. It is right next to the river, too.

only thing other than gambling and mt rose in reno is checkin out the old side of reno over by the nugget. or virginia city is really fun too but that will require gettin a car its like 20 minz away

you can stay right down town, thats where all the big hotels are, or you can stay in sparks,where their are big casino's, you would have to get a cab to go into town, I suppose you can rent a car, the parking downtown can be a *****, if you stay in sparks, its only three miles to downtwon,
