This is more for fjpoblam than for the asker, but Comodo Firewall Pro version 3 (CPF 3) was just released today. It's said to be even better that CPF 2.4; uses less resources and has a better memory. It requires a clean uninstall of CPF 2.4 before installing CPF 3.
Comodo Firewall Pro v3: http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/
And the answerer above me is full of (I don't want to get violated again) for bad-mouthing Comodo when he says he's never experienced it. Also, I don't believe AVG has had a firewall for three years.
Edit: I'm referring to AVG's security suite w/ firewall; it hasn't been around for three years.
AVG has no stand-alone firewall.

Wow, such bad information here today!
1. In regards to shadow mavens comments...AVG is not even a firewall, it is an anti-virus.
2. In regards to River Euphrates comments...pure nonsense. Studies have show that a Windows computer can be attacked and compromised within minutes if not seconds without a firewall. A firewall is there for a very good reason: to protect you from hackers!
Firewall is your friend, it is not your enemy!
---------------
Most all firewalls (except Windows built-in "half-a-firewall") will require a "training period" when first installed. Once you tell a firewall that a program or an application is trusted to access the internet , it will remember it and the alerts will become less and less frequent with time.
Once the firewall is completely trained, the only time you would see an alert is when you install a new piece of software which you would of course "Allow". Or if at trojan (or other malware) were to attack your computer and try to access the internet to steal your personal information , the firewall would also alert you and you would of course 'deny' access.
You didn't mention what operating system you are using so I can't really recommend a firewall. At this time it is pretty slim-pickin's for a firewall that works on Windows Vista.
Many people have had good luck with the free version of ZoneAlarm, but you will encounter the "training period" also.
You might want to check it out.
Anyway good luck.

Anyone who would every tell to that you don't need a firewall either doesn't know what they are talking about or they are black hat that are trying to target you. Either way you need a firewall and if you are having problems with comodo then try zone alarm free version.

You won't like my answer and I don't expect any points, but...
IMHO Comodo is the best: it just takes an agonizingly long time to get its "learning" done. You have to get through a long period of teaching it the basic transactions it should ALWAYS allow, then when it gets used to MOST of the usual ones, things will calm down, and you'll get interrupted only every now and then.
I have it, and, I notice no sloth in the loading of web pages. I've tried with Firefox and Safari and Opera and IE7 and IE6 and IE5.5 and several other IEs and Avant...(I'm a web designer, so I have to have as many different browsers as I can find, for testing...)
I also have AVG standing in the path, and some other anti-virus+anti-spyware+anti-rootkit stuff standing in the wings!

Zone Alarm free, its easy to configue. If you are an advanced user you can try others, I always found alot to be hard to configure and very intrusive. Zone Alarm can be set to work inthe background so it does not disturb you while you working on the internet.

You don't need a firewall.
The only thing that most of them do is slow your machine down. Putting a firewall on your machine actually makes it more of a target, because people assume you have something useful on your machine that you are trying to protect.
