If you have plants, you should go with Rams... Firemouths will tear your plants to shreds, while Rams will appreciate them and use them as cover. You could comfortably keep two breeding pairs in a 30 gallon tank. Female Rams will have a black spot on their side which is surrounded by blue dots. Males will have the same black spot, but it will not have blue dots around it. Keep the temperature at around 80* with soft water, bushy plants like Java Moss, and flat surfaces for the eggs to be placed on. The parents will protect the eggs, so it is unnecessary to separate them. Contact me if you have any questions.

EDIT: LOL, well, Firemouths may mess with plants, live or plastic, creating a general dissaray... I would still go with Rams, just because they are less aggressive, and you could keep a school of Tetras in the tank with them...

EDIT 2: Roberto, Convicts are South American and come from soft, acidic water, while Electric Yellows come from Africa and inhabit hard, alkaline water. Rams and Firemouths are both South American, and both prefer soft, acidic water, so hardness and pH really don't factor in here...

As to which pair will breed readily, both are quite easily bred. However, since you've bred electric yellows and convicts before, I gather your water is more suitable to the firemouths. So I'll go with the firemouths. Mature male firemouths are larger and have more pointed (longer) dorsal fins compared to the females. Females are smaller and have a more rounded appearance specially in the abdominal area.
Your water may not be suitable for breeding rams. Rams need soft, acidic water to breed. They may breed in less suitable water, but the eggs do not hatch.

the elementary elementary and fastist style of fish to reproduce might could be guppies there entire mateing cycle being pregnant cycle and birthcycle all calculate out to be surprisingly much abot 5-6 weeks .... Thats with mateing witch may well be as quickly as they meet.. and then being pregnant and all that... basically make suer that when the female has babbies... you retain her in a seperate tank or the male will chase her to dying... the different welll... i think they're type fish... water snails are the two female and male so all you want is to snails and your off.. They multiply SOOOOOO quickly its no longer humorous.
