My wife, soon to be filing for divorce, opened a bank account in my name without my knowing about it. The only reason I found out is that they sent me a email informing that should be recieveing a pin number and id in the mail. I beleive she opened this account so she would get a cash reward for new accounts that she got to be opened via referal. But I do not like the fact that she was able to open a account and maybe even get lines of credit in my name. What legal recourse do I have this is making me uncomfortable especially since it appears she is going to file for divorce soon.

Contact the bank and file the appropriate papers for fraud.

If you stay with your wife..then say "oops..I didn't know YOU did this Kitten! I thought it was a stranger trying identity theft."

If you end up apart you have recourse.

Talk to an attorney.

And you may want to place an ad in the personal section of your newspaper saying you will not be responsible for any debt incrued by your wife as of this date.

Good Luck! and keep a CLOSE eye on your credit bureau and check book balance!

This is illegal. You should have had to sign something to have your name on the account. Call or go to the bank and close the account. Contact a lawyer and tell them the situation. They can tell you what info you will need when/if she files for divorce

Definately wrong and illegal. It is definately forgery and no a spouce is not entitled to sign for the other person (unless of course you agree but still not legal).

if you didn't sign anything or approved to open the account, then i guess you should go the bank and tell them.. if its under your name.. then you are the one responsible for it.. just cancel it..
