I was just watching the news and on Long Island some guy with the license plate "GETOSAMA" (as in Get Osama) is being required by DMV to surrender his license plates because they are "offensive".
I think it's ridiculous... After all this country has been through, some people have BALLS!!!
Why on EARTH would anyone get offended by a license plate (IN NEW YORK MIND YOU, WHERE THE TWIN TOWERS FELL!!!!) that supports the troops and the capturing of a murderer?
Please answer. I'd like to get as many opinions as I can on this topic.
THANKS!

It was definitely GET OSAMA. Channel 12 News was making a big deal about it and the owner of the plates was trying to defend himself.

GETOSAMA should not be offensive anywhere in the USA.
Anybody in the USA who is offended by it should be under surveillance.
Okay, there are probably a lot of innocent people named Osama, but everybody knows WHICH Osama is being referred to.

It doesn't offend me I think it's funny! Look what they did to the US that morning of 9/11 watching the news before work I'll never forget. Anyone of his race that lives here shouldn't be offended they have lived here for many years Now if it was a religion or something else that would be wrong. Him and his boys destroyed a big part of NY people were killed. He should carry the plate in honor of the US

I'm not offended and at this point I don't care what offends others in other countries. I used to but not nowadays. They don't care about us at all. Well, I'm not being fair here I guess. Not all countries are that way. I see a lot more offensive bumper stickers here that should be banned. After 911 they had stickers on cars showing that little kid peeing and they had Osama's name under it. That wasn't taken as offensive.

The plate is offensive to anyone whose name just might be Osama because the last name isn't mentioned. Other than this reason I think there's nothing offensive about it at all.

i don't think it's offensive...everyone's pretty much against osama....especially in this country and since that's where the car's driving around, i don't see how people could get offended. if it was something there was some kind of disagreement on, like get (someone the country doesn't hate) then maybe. but i've seen some offensive things on cars (in california) like on the license plate frames....and they aren't coming off!

There's people in here that are offended by less than that. This is a bad place to argue about being offended. You can get reported in here if you like the color blue.I think the plates should say "KILLOSAMA". Who could that possibly offend in America?

No but we've gotten so PC we don't want to offend anyone even a known terrorist who's probably responsible for thousands of lives lost. It's ridiculous. It's not directed towards any race or religion but one particular person who a lot of people don't really care for.

It would offend me if my name were Osama. Maybe the DMV shouldn't have issued that liscense plate in the first place, and that's why they're recalling it.

Are you sure that it's "Get Osama" and not "Ghetto Sama". This guy might be able to argue his point and keep his plates if he can think of another clever meaning of his plates...

You have to put yourself in other people shoes. For the Americans who are from other countries around Iraq and Iran, even India, are judged by the color of their skin and are hated for something that they have no control over. I could understand them being offended because people being patriotic can commit "hate crimes" against these people for the sake of patriotism. I understand being patriotic, I love my country, but also our first amendment right is freedom of speech. I think that he could have put his opinion out there but could have perhaps done it a little differently. also, if the DMV let him get away with that, then the next thing you know, people are going to want to put something like ILKILLU (I"LL KILL YOU) on their plates
