4.0 Liter V6 with 87,000 miles on it. Also . . . does a blown head gasket have anything to do with the fuel gauge not working ????

NEVER replace any part till you know the problem.
Are you sure you have a blown head gasket. Do you have mis fire. Have you had a compression check. Did some "mekanik" tell you it was blown. Is it obviously leaking. You didn't mention the problem so I can't help. Don't get ripped off.

Question answered about gasket, so I will go to the Gauge.
No. Seems like every gas gauge on every pick-up or car I've owned goes belly up pretty quick. I have replaced two, but they were never right.
I suspect it's because we get our parts from Mexico and China. Just like the wally-world stuff....Crap...

well the head gasket set is around $120. but that doesnt inculde the head bolts. head bolts are around $40. for the set

here are some part numbers... head gasket set by fel pro is HIS9081PT and the bolts are ES72794

your looking at about 800-1000 bucks ,most shops wont do one without doing the other and that means having both heads checked for cracks also,and no that wont make the fuel gage not work right on it,those are two different problems all together,that may be a bad sending unit causing that too happen on it,good luck with it.

Its a pain to repair the head gasket, (depending on the mileage and condition of the engine, you might have to do a head job too,) valves, even perhaps a rebuild of the engine.

ON THE HEAD GASKETS PARTS AND LABOR IF THE HEADS ARE NOT CRACKED AROUND $600.00 TO $800.00.
