Nice one Kristin! It's a mind bubbling question and I've looked at all the answers but using logic here I'd have to say there are only 14 legs (girls) due to the fact that the cats are in their back packs.
But very nice one!

7 girls = 14 legs
7 girls * 7 backpacks * 7 cats * 4 legs = 1372
7 girls * 7 backpacks * 7 cats * 7 little cats * 4 legs = 9604
total= 10990

7x7 backpacks = 49 backpacks
49 packs x 7 big cats = 49 x 7 x 4 =Z
7x7x7 little cats =49x7x4 =Y
X+Y+Z and maybe add two for a driver as we allknow women cant drive buses!!!!!

They each have 7 packs, so there are 49 packs.
49 backpacks = 343 large cats = 1372 legs .
343 big cats = 2401 little cats.
2401 little cats= 9604 legs.
Add em all up I get: 10990 legs, far too many for a bus :P

14. It never said anything about the cats and kittens on the bus only the 7 girls.

7 girls
-- 7*7=49 backpacks
-- 49*7=343 big cats
--343*7=2401 little cats
total cats = 343+2401=2744
cats have 4 legs so legs of cats = 2744*4=10,976
girls have 2 legs each so girl legs= 14
add
total legs = 10,990

7 girls*(2 legs/girl) = 14 legs

Total legs = 14 + 4*7³(1+7)
