This is like carpal tunnel syndrome, when you use one area too much (and sometimes incorrectly). Also, "tennis elbow" qualifies. You don't damage it in one move, but rather by repetition over time.

carpal tunnel, tennis elbow. Basically, the overuse causes swelling in the tendons, which rubs against the tendon sheaths and hurts a lot. If you don't follow the docs orders you end up making it much worse and lose strength in the injured part. If it's really bad, a series of electric stimulation treatments help a lot. (they're not painful, just a bit tingly)

overuse syndrome is a term that is like a waste basket...a general term that could be about any body part that is "over used".Typically it is the upper extremities..Its used when what you have doesnt really fit any good criteria or it is used as a working diagnosis..in other words as you are trying to find out what your exact diagnosis is over several visits...so all these things like tendonitis, tennis elbow, golfers elbow, carpal tunnel etc..can be classified as Overuse syndrome...but the exact diagnosis is much better.
