It sounds like a monitor issue.

Sometimes the monitor wire gets loose and sometimes the monitor goes out etc..

Try this, get a monitor and plug it into the back of your laptop. If you see the monitor (the one you plug in) lights up and you see your icons then its the monitor screen.

do you see to POST (power on self test)?

Get a monitor and see if the video card is working. There should be a video connection in back of the laptop.

If it the monitor works then press the function key and F8 together. You may have turn the laptop screen off.

It could be that your backlight is broken. This happened to me a couple times. Try shining a flashlight onto your screen, and if you can see the image on your screen very dimly, then your backlight is broken. You'll need to get it fixed by a technician.

If your laptop is under warranty by the manufacturer then you can send it to them and they will probably fix it for free. Otherwise I'm not sure how much it would cost.
