Well he's not making a very intelligent stab at it if that is his plan...but in reality the US of A has never really got into the Empire thing aside of making Hawaii into one of its' states.Because of the history of the country - throwing off the shadow of the British, Spanish and French Empires, fighting Mexico for territory, trying to work out exactly how a country made up of the religious zealots, political exiles and general detritus of Europe should actually function (once they had eradicated the existing Native American cultures) - they have missed out on the glory of Empire experienced by those giants of Europe, like Belgium and Portugal. However they have more than made up for the lack of Empire-like chaos by inventing Capitalism and turning the 'devil take the hindmost' philosophy into a nationalistic anthem. As for their much-vaunted freedom of speech, I don't recall Senator Joe McCarthy paying too much heed to that...and any pretensions they ever had to being a beacon of freedom and respect for the individual pretty much disappeared into the bowels of Guantanamo Bay. Is it worse to live in Burma or Zimbabwe? Probably, unless you were unfortunate enough to be poor in New Orleans, but at least in those countries you don't get sold the ludicrous idea that you are in the world's greatest democracy where your vote actually matters (particularly if you live in Florida where Mr Bush's brother can just decide not to register you in the first place) and you don't have to live with the most crass, idiotic, anti-intellectual culture that the world has ever seen ( and I'm not just talking about Disney, cheerleaders, hamburgers and baseball). If the US is the pinnacle of democratic achievement, then God help us all!

Doesn't seem likely, since
1. everywhere we've invaded now has a democratically elected government.
2. we're not collecting taxes from them.
3. we're not killing people for disagreeing with us. In fact, many of them hold elected office.

Building an empire requires the subjugation of the target nation. We lost our taste for empire a long time ago. Read up on Manifest Destiny. That's about the extent of the American Empire. Sure, we tacked on a few protectorates and commonwealths, plus Alaska, which we bought, and Hawaii, which we subjugated. Not much since then, though.

Besides, we wouldn't want Iraq as part of the US. Environmentalists wouldn't let us drill for oil there. ;-)

G. Bush must be the strongest man known to libratards. He has so much power do you think you should make public your dislike of him?
He could find out about you and no telling what might happen. You might end up on a list of 'missing in action' like...like...Oh yeah, Like that list they have compiled of people who died suddenly around Billy Fred Clinton and His wonder dog Billary.

I doubt he wants to build an empire. He's probably just trying to leave a mark in history so no one will forget him and believe me, NO ONE will forget George W. Bush's presidency who lives in the U.S.

He's too late already. The American Empire is crumbling as the economy goes into meltdown. The dollar is worth less every day and Americans are sinking deeper into poverty as one financial scandal follows another.

If you don't like Mr Bush, you are free to go and live in Burma or Russia or even go and live under Mugabe.
You people who do nothing but criticise the Wests leaders have no idea what it is like to live in a country with a bad leader.
If you said things like that in those countries you would disapear over night.
