The law is State specific, and in same cases even city or county specific as well.

Where i live in New York, you need a valid drivers license to buy a gun, they do a FBI check on your record,if you have a violent felony or a warrant for your arrest, you can't purshass a fire arm,if your recoed is clear, you do need a fire arm license to carry a hand gun,a long gun (shot gun or rifle) for hunting you don't need a license, but if it's in your vehical, the ammo must be in the trunk, the gun in the car,or vise versa, and if the gun is in the car obviously must have no shell in it (loaded).Or you'll get a HUGE fine. And have to answer alot of questions,+ never hide gun if stopped by police, cause it has to be visable,if you try and conceal it,well they're gonna really wonder what you're up to,and if it's concealed and loaded, good bye, cause you're going to jail with a really BIG fine, loose your gun,and pay for a rool back to tow your car to police impound, that towing fee is $50 and every day it sits in impound yard, around $40 a day.

A license is not required to buy a gun but a background check must be conducted on all gun sales. A permit is however required to have a concealed weapon that you will have to go through the state to get.

Most people are just ignorant when it comes to the law, gun laws especially. The liberal media has intentionally tried to make it seem like owning a gun is wrong or really hard to discourage it. I live in Georgia, anyone 18 or over, 21 or over for handguns, who has NOT been convicted of a felony or any domestic violence crime, can walk into any gun shop in the state and walk out with a gun within 30 minutes. The background check takes less than a minute usually. Yet I have people all the time talk to me about "waiting periods" or say that they have their gun "registered". It's not even possible to "register" a gun in Georgia unless it's one of the NFA restricted weapons like a full auto machine gun or a short barreled rifle.

States vary on this issue. For instance in Arizona you could by a gun at a yard sale and keep on your dashboard or wear in on your side in public view if you want but as soon as you put it in the glove compartment or under the seat it is a concealed weapon requiring a license.

I believe you apply for the license at the store you buy the gun in. If your a felon, you can't possess some kinds of guns. There is a 30 day waiting period before you can pick up the gun.

permit is required and the paper work is filled out when you buy the gun then there is a waiting period. Contact a gun shop to find out.
