When people ask questions and post pictures of themselves, are they fishing for compliments?

They ask if they are good looking... but if someone tells them that their nose is too big, or their hair looks messy... that person gets a ton of thumbs down. So really, aren't people who ask questions like "look at my pic and tell me how I look?" fishing for compliments?

Would you give in and tell them they are beautiful?

I would never and have never asked how do I look or any of the other ones. I post my real pic only cause I got tired of everything else and this is who I am

I think the people that do that are low in self confidence and maybe just need an ego boost, while there is nothing wrong with that P&S is not the place to do that because no matter how they look some answers wont be so nice
I rarely answer those q's but if I do I try and be nice

yes, they are fishing and NO, I don't cave and tell them what they want to hear.

If they are so insecure that they have to solicit compliments from Y!A then they have bigger problems than any rude comment I say might cause.

I avoid such questions. Which ever way you answer it, you're not doing the person any favors.

I tell my opinion regardless if other's don't like it! People want answers, I'll give them mine!? My opinion! =)
