People think it's weird because driving is like a rite of passage for teenagers/ young adults! It's a symbol of your independence... you no longer need anyone to tote you around. If you don't have license without good reason, people assume you're unmotivated and lazy. You should get one.. you never know when it might come in handy. No one's asking you to get a car and pay insurance... etc... But at least you'll just have the knowledge there... just in case you ever need it

I think what you just wrote should be sufficient enough. I'm the same way, especially since I live in New York. Having a car would just be too much of a hassle, and I've just never had that innate desire to drive a vehicle that most other Americans seem to have. Public transportation and walking is just more efficient for me, and I don't feel like waiting three hours in line at the DMV in Midtown. Anyway, you may as well just tell people the truth: that you just have no desire to. If people keep prodding you for an answer, they're just nuisances.

It's not weird at all. I didn't get a drivers license until I was 19, and I didn't start driving until 25. I'm with you I don't really like to drive and if I lived in a city that had a good transportation system, I would get rid of my car in a flash.
Not weird, you're cool.
Just tell them you have no interest in driving or owning a car.

My GF doesn't drive or have a license. In the inner city parking can be a hassle. People break into your cars. Emission test, registration and fuel can be expensive.
It requires a little more work but the simplification has it's reward.
My friend works in a trauma center for a hospital in a big urban city and often tells me about the high number of auto accidents everyday where people are hurt. No driving so much decreases this risk.

I'm more than twice your age and I don't drive, either. I've never gone for driving lessons or had a driver's license.
I can get to where I want to go by walking or by bus or cab.
Cars are a waste of money, IMO. I'd only learn to drive and buy a used car if I had no other choice, i.e. I lived out in the country and needed a car to go food shopping, etc.
The minute you drive a car off the lot, it depreciates in value. You can tell some of the people who want to know why you don't drive that you'd rather spend your money on other things than car insurance, gas and costly car repairs.:)

Lots of people from NYC don't drive until well into their 20's because they don't need to. My sister is in her 30's and she doesn't drive because she has epilepsy (although she very seldom has seizures). One of my cousins didn't start driving until her mid-20's because...she just...decided not to (beats me....).
Why exactly do you need to give people a reason for why you choose not to drive? How about because you just don't? The only thing I would tell you about why you SHOULD learn to drive and at least get a license is that it will enable you to be more independent. My sister has issues with always being dependent on people to take her somewhere and it's making her depressed.

I am older then you and I am the same way. I live in New York, I do not need to drive..now depending on where you live this could be strange but in NY there is never a circumstance where you will have to drive. My husband drives and I take cabs everywhere else, so why waste a day at the DMV?
Tell people to mind their business and give you a ride.

I didn't get my license until I was maybe 23. I had to get it because I was in the military and needed to drive around base in order to do my job. I didn't get my sooner because I was afraid to drive and didn't feel comfortable behind the wheel. It took me a long time to finally get comfortable enough to drive on the interstate. Now I live in Chicago and I don't need to drive at all, I don't even have a car here.

Do you have a driving phobia? If you don't learn to drive, you'll always be dependent upon somebody else to get anywhere. If you live in Chicago or New York, no big deal- there's tons of cabs and public transportation. In most towns, however, it's a different story. Just tell people you have a driving phobia.

People think you are strange for not wanting to drive because driving is so much fun and most kids look forward to it and start driving as soon as they can.
Tell them you are being smart and saving your money, that the $100.00 plus a month for insurance and the $100.00 plus a month for gas and vehicle maintenance is not worth it to you, that you'd rather have the money.
