I was pregnant. We lived in a 3rd floor apartment, with a shared bath on the second floor. Not feeling well, I'd cook a while, run downstairs to the bathroom, come up and cook some more.
I'd never cooked most of the things on our menu before, so I had the cookbook in my hand most of the day.
Dinner turned out quite well. No one had any complaints. But I sure let my husband know that he should never have invited guests without talking to me, first.

We will be cooking a big turkey this year. We are home in the US this winter with our son so having a big dinner with him will be nice. Last holiday we were overseas and they don't have Thanksgiving in Hungary and it is hard to find a whole turkey as well. They don't seem to like roasted turkey there, you can buy a whole goose or duck for less then turkey. I was looking at the frozen geese here in one of the food stores and it was over $76.!! In Hungary it would be less then $20. for a whole goose. Hope everyone has a great holiday

When I cooked Thanksgiving Dinner for my family I was 18 years old, so I did not know that you had to take the giblets out of the Pouch of the turkey, I even stuffed it with them inside, Paper and all. When it was ready to be cut for Dinner, my Husband tried to get some stuffing out of the cavity, all the giblets came out with the dressing Paper and all. I wanted to die of embarrassment, but My husband said that it did not matter, what mattered was that I had made the turkey myself, and it tasted good. Whew! I felt relief, but now I am a wonderful cook, and that memory still comes up on my Mind during Thanksgiving.

The first time I cooked thanksgiving dinner, I cooked my turkey in one of those baking bags that's supposed to cut the cooking time in half. 4 hours later I took the turkey out of the oven. Oh boy, you should have seen it, perfectly golden brown. My husband got ready to carve it, he slowly started inserting the knife then, POP, the turkey busted open with a poof of smoke. It was over cooked and the whole turkey fell apart. Needless to say, we ended up at Denny's. Its funny now, but at the time, I couldn't stop crying.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Ha ha, I'm a vegetarian so I had just planned to order pizza for everyone. I didn't realize that every pizza place was closed on Thanksgiving. I was stuck going to the grocery at the last minute and only had 5 minutes to search before it also closed early (gotta love living in the south-nothing open on holidays). Needless to say my frozen-quick-shop fare didn't go over that well but at least I have gotten out of the cooking rotation : )

I've never had to cook the whole dinner, I always bring a dish to someone elses house, but I try to do a trial dish a few days before to make sure I know what I am doing and everyone doesn't eat something nasty.

I regret that I did so well, my mom is on permanent Thanksgiving strike and I have wound up being forced to cook for my family every year since. It sucks cause they all depend on me now, and I can no longer go "making rounds" collecting food from other relatives anymore LOL!!! Happy Holidays to you!

oh boy. the turkey hadn't thawed, so I had to do the warm water bath from 5-7 that morning. Sheesh. Finally I was able to chisel the giblets and stuff out of the cavity. I kept running warm water down its interior. Finally, I got it thawed enough to stick in the oven.

It was very good.

We had an old fashioned fence raising that day. I calculated the time per pound put the bird in my brand new microwave and let it go. It was fantastic....I flubbed following the directions completely, never checked on it once and to this day have not been able to duplicate that bird in the micro or oven.
