Engine isn't getting spark and I can't figure why. They gave me a "valet key" not the original. Wondering if they had the keys with chips in it back in 96?

No, the 1996 did not have the immobilizer system with the chip in the key. there should not be any difference with the valet key.

you have a conventional distributor on that car. the odds greatly favor a bad ignition coil as your cause of no spark.

other possibilites are a bad rotor or distributor cap, a bad ignition module or a broken timing belt. A bad crankshaft postition sensor would also cause this but they rarely if ever go bad.

check to see if the coil will arc to the cap. My guess is you have a bad ignition coil as they are common failures on the older hondas.

hope that helps
