Your boast about not having a black Senator elected from the South since reconstruction does not hold. I am not sure why you were specific about the Senate - could it be because you are aware that there are several Representatives in the House that are black and from the south? You have repeatedly posted this question as another Yahoo answerer has stated, and that is easy enough to verify. And if you do a little research, I think you will find that it is not only the South, but the North, the East Coast, the West Coast and in general the majority of the United States have not elected a black Senator. Only the MidWestern state of Illinois has voted not one but two Black Senators to serve..and they were both Democrats. Do a little more research and you will see that before Reconstruction that the majority of blacks voted Republican but now they majority of those House members that are black are also Democrats. So why do you keep asking this question???

Never? And what exactly would the South do if that happened? Cede? LMAO....they foolishly tried that once already and looked what happened. Guess what...the South lost, they will never rise again...get over it. Let's just hope they've learned from their previous "failures".

And to quote Bob Dylan..."Times they are a changin". Harold Ford came close in Tenn, Virginia has previously elected a black Governor(D. Wilder) and Atlanta now has a mayor that is not only black but also a woman(S. Franklin). She is the first black and the first woman to be elected mayor of a major Southern city. Imagine that!

I have been saving my Dixie Cups waiting for the South to rise again but all I see them do is sink deeper into the muck and mire on such issues.

Seriously I have seen a marked improvement in the South over the last 40 years. I believe they will tollerate a Black President. Besides Obama isn't all black he is half white. (Does that make him gray?) That would mean only half as many people can hate him for his race from each of the black and white races. As for the brown and yellow and red people, well, they are on their own. Right? Bigot?

As a Southerner I resent that question. Blacks have only been sitting at the front of the bus and going to "white" schools for 40 years. Many of the people who instituted and enforced Jim Crowe laws are still with us. But times change, albiet not over night.

In terms of national politics, white Southerners today are very republican. Blacks nationwide have tended to vote catagorically democrat. That might have something to do with it.

It's not race, it's politics. The south is predominatly Republican, and blacks tend to be liberal Democrats. Do the math, if a black Republican ran for office against a white liberal, he'd probably win. The mayor of Shreveport Louisiana is a black lib too, so anything can happen.

when will you stop asking the same crap? Did you catch the same condition as GovernmentCheese?

Well, I can cut & paste too, so here's my same answer~ enjoy!

huh? I'm thinking when/if that were real or true... but as a southerner, I can say, I know NO ONE who thinks like that (but are you speaking for yourself or just trying to make an outrageous statement in the guise of a question? 'cause maybe there's one fool that closed-minded still around...).

**And to the other answerers who insult the South due to this one ignorant ranting fool~ clearly you judge a whole group based on its poorest example, so I'm not too sure about you guys either... but I don't hate you or insult you.

The south at least does not operate from a position of hypocrisy and fully supports the exploitation of slave labor .
Whats the difference between a ten year old kid in China who was sold by his parents for the equivalent of $10.00 to a factory to provide goods sold in U.S.A. markets as opposed to a plantation owner who provides food picked by slaves .

I say we go back to the good old days and at least accept that some people are forced into slavery and its not so bad .

I know people that went to college to secure a government job and they must show up at work pay taxes and follow the laws of this nation .

Why not accept indentured servitude today .

It doesn't matter. If Kerry had won Ohio in 2004 he would have become president without winning a single southern state. If Obama can do as well and also pick up Ohio then he won't need the south either.
