My grandson is 5 months old and the poor little guy is constipated and just screams when he does have a bowel movement. What's some good ol' fashioned Grandma advice?

Here are some options:

1. Apply a very warm cloth to baby's anus and gently stimulate the area by rubbing. This relaxes the muscles and allows gas and matter to escape, especially in breastfed babies.

2. Use a small amount of prune juice to baby's formula and shake well. Change baby as soon as he/she passes a stool. TIP: Use super gentle warm washclothes instead of alcohol based wipes which will sting the babies tender red, welpy rashes as they will bleed and cause baby and you excrutiating pain (both physically and emotionally). Save baby's and your own's sanity.

The best thing for that age is prune juice or prune puree, or any fruit puree should do like pear or apple just nothing with banana as that binds the stomach.

My little one used to suffer with constipation regularly I used to just give her a tsp of prune puree, and with in the day she would make motions. You could give the whole jar if baby is willing to eat it, but be careful to much could cause tummy ache especially considering baby is only 5mths so I would say not more than 5 tsps. Good luck.

When my kids were young I used to give them lots of boiled water with a little brown sugar between feeds. Let the water cool down to warm and see how they go, some times they pull a face but in the end they drink it. My 2 sons are now grown men and both of them have wonderful teeth, so it never did them any harm, but it did make their stools loose.

Hope this helps.

Try a little prune juice. Most babyfood manufacturers make it. Try twice a day - coupla ounces - and adjust as needed.

Also, put a little olive oil in that dish of baby food.

Watered down Prune juice and give him lots of water everyday. If he doesn't like plain water you can put a little Jello powder in it. I gave it to all my babies to get them to drink water. They need it besides their formula. Meanwhile I think they make baby suppositories to take care of the immediate problem.

I have had the same problem until I started eating 1 Activia yogurt a day.
I don't know if a baby could eat those but would ask his pediatrician .

Karo syrup in his formula will do the trick.A sliver of wet Ivory soap will work as a suppository for help. But be careful it comes out fast when it starts.

a glycerin suppository, small for infants and a bit of Vaseline around the little butt hole. Look at what is causing this, could be a deeper problem.

Old fashioned remedy but it works just try a spoonful of "cod liver oil". That should get him moving again
