Set the machine to boot from the CD/ROM. after you boot up from the operating system CD and follow the first initial steps it will allow you to "format" the hard drive (this is what you meant by memory I assume). Formatting erases all the current data on the hard drive and makes it blank. Will this delete any problems i had with virises spyware addware trogens and malware?

Yes it will delete all previous data for your purposes.
If you want to sell the pc afterwards I would use a 3rd party application to delete all data on the hard drive so it cannot be recovered. Usually these apps will write 0's to the entire drive.

first of all you need to know that what most consider as formatting does not "wipe" your drive. It merely sets all the clusters to be overwritten. the data is there and can be retrieved. In a Windows environment, if you don't do a low level format Windows will actually "reuse" some of the files it finds on the HDD when you perform a reinstall, not to mention your MBR (master boot record) will still be in tact and will be annoying if you don't know how to fix it.

In your case, if all your wanting to do is start fresh and get rid of some viruses and spyware, then I would just follow what was given to you before to keep it simple. If you find you still have adware and virues, and I doubt you do, then post again and we can talk you through a lower level of formatting that should get you back on track.

"re-formating" is what your doing. But to answer your question yes doing this should clear all your problems you had w/ spyware virus etc. I suggest best way to format your computer is through DOS. With dos its quicker and more reliable.

From what you describe it sounds extra like a hardware concern than an epidemic. One lengthy beep ought to factor in direction of a motherboard concern. once you reported the show screen staying black particularly circumstances once you turn the gadget on additionally makes me lean in direction of hardware failure. you will touch eMachines and tell them what's occurring. in case you basically have been given the laptop for Christmas you may nevertheless be waiting to have them fix it under guarantee. sturdy success!
