I wouldn't worry about no ultrasound yet. They usually wait until you are closer to 20 weeks for an ultrasound. If you haven't scheduled one yet, ask them when you get one. It is something you should get to do. Don't be afraid to ask questions!!
As far as having a hard time hearing the heartbeat, sometimes in the beginning it just isn't as easy to hear, so don't worry too much. Also - if your placenta is "on top" (meaning closer to your belly than the baby is, with the baby closer to your back), it tends to "muffle" the heartbeat and make it harder to hear. You can find out the position of the placenta when you do have your ultrasound. Just ask the technician.
About having different doctors, I see midwives, and I make it a point to see as many of them as I can, because there is never any guarantee who will be on duty when you go into labor. That way I am at least familiar with the various people, and feel a little more comfortable during labor. It helped with my first pregnancy. Maybe you can find some comfort in this.

I'm so sorry. I had an ultrasound at 11 weeks and at my 16 week appointment my doctor couldn't find the heartbeat (the baby was moving too much) and did another ultrasound to ensure everything was okay. I have my big ultrasound next week and I know I'll get at least one more before the baby is due. Ask these questions to your doctor's office. Sometimes insurance is an issue. Ask for one doctor. I wouldn't want another doctor checking me and who didn't KNOW me. Or, like me, find an office where there is only one doctor.

If you aren't comfortable with your doctor's office, you should switch. But, I also wouldn't worry too much about things. I'm 17 weeks and I have had two appointments, one at 11 weeks that was really just bloodwork and talking to the nurse, and another at 15 weeks that included a physical exam by the doctor. My first ultrasound was at 17 weeks 3 days. I am high risk, and will have having ultrasounds every 4 weeks.

Most insurances only cover 1 or 2 sono's so doctors try holding off them until you are far enough along to check for many things. When they found the heart beat it must have been strong enough not to worry the doctor of doing an ultrasound. Sometimes the baby's position makes it very difficult to find the heartbeat. Sono's to determine the sex of your child are usually done at around 19 to 24 weeks. They are not done just to determine sex but also to look at heart, lung, gallbladder .........They are developed more at later stages. Depending on what clinic you go to will determine why you have so many doctors. At smaller clinics you usually have one doctor and then the doctor that is on call. In my sisters case she when to an army clinic and never saw the same doctor twice. If you are looking for a better patient doctor expedience next try a smaller independent office.

I would change doctors right away. You deserve to have individualized and personal treatment. I am going to switch my doctor for the same reason - I have seen a different nurse practitioner every time I have been in and haven't seen my doctor once. I had my first ultrasound at 7 weeks at a hospital. It's very strange that at 16 weeks, and with not being able to find a heartbeat, that they haven't requested an ultrasound.

You should probably switch doctors if you are not comfortable. If you want an ultrasound, ask the doctor when will you will have an ultrasound. My doctor is a family practice doctor, but before i leave each appointment, i make sure they schedule my next appointment with her and nobody else.

Please if possible go to a new doctor. Clearly your worried and quite rightly 2! and this will do you no good. As for the ultrasound it is rare but some places wait till 20 weeks. But i would demind one. Especially as they had a hard time hearing the heart. I would try not to worry, your baby is still small and moving around a lot. Please try and get a new doctor or even make a formal complant clearly your not being treated right

well they dont usually do an ultrasound until 20 weeks or so.... have you asked to get an ultrasound earlier?
I have the same situation with doctors theres about 3 that work in the office and i have to see all of them so they all know whats going on since they cant predict which one will be able to actually deliver my baby.

You really don't get an ultrasound til about 20wks. That's when they can see that all the major organs are present, plus measure the baby so they could give you a due date going by the size. Pick a doctor that has his own practice and go there.

GO to a place where they have one doctor. Not a group practice!!

I had the same problem when i tried to get an appt with a specific dr, the secretary was nasty woman and said "WHEN you come in, who ever is available will see you. If the main -obgyn is here she will look at you too. When you go into labor, who ever is on-call will attend"

I don't Fin want every dr and their mother to look in-between u know where!!
I want ONE dr, preferably female who has been pregnant, and knows me very well, knows of any complications or other issues that may arise.

Call up a few Ob-gyns and ask if they practice as a group, or only 1 dr. and go to the place that has 1 dr and he/she attends emergencies and will be in teh labor room with you!!!

Trust me that is best!!
