I read the article and I agree this is going to be a problem that is going to get a lot worse before it gets any better.
I hate playing the dark harbinger of bad news but it is obvious to me that Egypt has some very difficult years ahead .
The problems concerning the food subsidies and the question of just how will many afford to exist is only one issue that is not being dealt with in a just and equitable manner.
This governments attitude is similar to the housewife who sweeps the dirt under the carpet instead of cleaning it up.
Not only do we need a new government with new policies and a new direction, there are many other issues that seem almost too hard, too problematic for anyone to take on with an outcome that will benefit the majority.
One issue that needs immediate attention and the implementation of some sort of strategy is the growing risks and public safety issues, related to the the deterioration of to the of the concrete towers that most Caireans live in.
These were built in the 70s of low grade materials and in another decade they are going to need radical restoration before they quickly turn into death traps.
Engineers now acknowledge that this type of building was far from ideal due to the topography of the land and was used as a quick solution to a mounting problem..
That is a pretty scary thought and there is also no safety plan for evacuation of these buildings in a time of natural or man made disaster.
In fact there is no evacuation plan for Cairo at all, should it ever be effected by a natural or man made disaster.
Change must come, let us just pray that it comes soon or it may well be too late.

I first came upon this blog when looking for some nationalistic music for Gigi and in my opinion it is a real credit to "Zenobia", the young woman who runs it.
Not only is it beautifully presented, it has loads of often difficult to obtain information on Egypt, current events and modern history.
