No, he's not over rated. People on this forum might not like him but he's THAT good.
Over paid? Perhaps. But as I see the situation, no one has to pay him. He isn't wired to a bomb. Seems like the folks who actually have the money think he's worth it. Yes, teachers and fire fighters should be paid more, but that's a fault of society, not A-Rod.

Alex Rodriguez is underrated. As great a (regular season) player as he is, commentators rarely call him the game's best. By comparison, if you watch an NFL game--even if you're not watching a Patriots game--the commentators will likely say Tom Brady is the best quarterback in football. The obvious difference, of course, is Brady has been a World Champion.

Entertainers, not just athletes, are overpaid. But this is nothing new (in America) because the market will bear their enormous salaries. So, in that context, Is A-Rod earning too much?

Alex hits for average, has awesome power, drives in a ton of runs, steals bases, and usually plays a mean third base. No, he's not earning too much. Imagine how much he could command if he could hit in October!

I think A-Rod is underrated and isn't making enough money. He's by far the best player in the league and owners are making a bigger percentage of the revenue that players are in recent years. They simply have not passed down the profits as they should have. (Read Buster Olney's column on ESPN.com) A-Rod should be making about 32 million a year. It's a business and your employees should be fairly paid especially in sports where it's all about the athletes, NOT the owners.

Being overrated depends on how you rate him? Is he the best player in history, no, not really.
Is he the best player playing right now? Well, he had the best season in 2007, but not the best season in the past 5 or 6.

Is he amongst the 10 best players playing now, yes, absolutely.

2007 was statistically, a career season for Rodriguez, which is why he probably opted out of his contract.

Does he earn too much, sure he does. Not compared to the revenue of the sport, but compared to his contributions to society.

If Rodriguez quit playing, it really wouldn't affect baseball at all.

However, as long as fans are ok playing the increasingly high ticket prices and demanding that their teams sign big names to satisfy their egos and self indulgent need to be 'winners', tickets will go up, salaries will go up, advertising will cost more and products will cost more.

I think he puts up great number in the regular season and will be in the hall someday but he is a choke artist and can not play worth a **** in the playoffs. I would rather a Manny or Ortiz any day of the week and twice on sunday. I tell the yanks keep paying the man and the sox will keep winning the World Series!!!

He is not over rated, he is a great player & he is going to be the greatest player ever to play the game. The only thing, I dont think he is ever going to win a World Series Championship. He is an awesome batter and a good defensive player, the only thing he needs is a championship & I'm not sure he will get one. He sure does earns his money during the regular season, but his play comes down during the playoffs. Get player though!!!

Players are worth as much as a GM will pay them and if someone is willing to pay A-Rod 125 million I think it is the GM that is earning too much.

Y isnt he over rated. Look at his stats and that will tell you why. He is a awesome hitter. Everyone last year said he had a bad year. He still had freaking 35+ Hrs. How is that a bad year
Is he over paid. Yes ..Nobody is this world is worth that much money. What are you gonna do with it. He could use that money for probably 39 generations and still have money.

Coming off a well-deserved MVP season, I don't see how he is overrated. Rodriguez really is All That.

Overpaid? It's possible that in a rational market (heh; love that myth) he'd be underpaid at his current rate, but as his salary is reached by agreement between him and his employer (good ol' free agency), he's making what he should be making.
